Karen Kessler was featured as a guest columnist in The Bergen Record yesterday, sharing her thoughts on leaks in the business and political worlds. Why do leaks happen? What causes them? How can they be prevented in the future?
“The right question is not ‘Who is leaking’, but, ‘Why is my organization leaking negative stories?’ And the answer is always the same: Employees do not sense any loyalty from leadership. Demands won’t do it. Threats don’t work. Only dedicated engaged leadership that respects the people it hires will keep employees from going outside the system. Concerned employees are far more likely to keep their concerns within established internal channels when they respect and feel respected by their leadership.”
